Juvenile Justice: Warren County Juvenile Intervention Program

As a father and high school coach, I understand parenting a teenager can come with challenges, and at times, young people may find themselves in situations that could impact their future.  For many years law enforcement and I have been frustrated by the “graduation” of juvenile offenders to the adult criminal justice system.  In June 2024, I led a contingent of police chiefs, school resource officers, and County Attorney’s Office staff to Houston, Texas, to attend a conference on juvenile justice.  The goal was to revolutionize the way that we deal with juveniles who commit criminal acts in Warren County.

Under my leadership, we have implemented the Warren County Juvenile Intervention Program.  This voluntary juvenile intervention program is a positive alternative to juvenile court or criminal charges.  The program’s goal is to help identify the strengths and needs of both the juvenile and the family, offering support, guidance, and resources while also holding the juvenile accountable for their illegal activity.  The program provides an opportunity to address concerns in a constructive and supportive environment without the long-term consequences of formal legal involvement.

Through involvement in the Warren County Juvenile Intervention Program, juveniles will have access to:

  • Individualized assessments to identify strengths and areas for growth

  • Personalized guidance and mentorship

  • Family support resources and counseling services

  • Educational and skill-building opportunities

  • Community service and leadership development program

The Warren County Juvenile Intervention Program can be a valuable tool in helping children make positive choices while strengthening a family’s support system.  Participation in this program is an alternative to a petition for criminal charges being filed in Juvenile Court.
