Doug's Resume

On January 23, 2017, Douglas Eichholz was appointed as Warren County Attorney to complete the term of retiring County Attorney John Criswell.  Doug served as County Attorney Criswell’s First Assistant from January 2, 2011 until his appointment.  Doug began his prosecution career in 1996 with the Black Hawk County Attorney's Office as an entry-level assistant.  Through hard-work Doug advanced through the office eventually becoming the liaison to the Cedar Falls Police Department prosecuting most cases that arose in Cedar Falls and on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa.  In December 2000 Doug started at the Warren County Attorney’s Office where he worked until early 2006.  Doug worked as the drug prosecutor for the Warren and Marion County Attorneys' Offices his last three years in the Office.  On April 18, 2006, Doug was asked by the Madison County Board of Supervisors to fill the unexpired term of County Attorney Martin Ramsey who was forced from office due to illness.

Doug has prosecuted everything from traffic offenses to murder.  He has represented us in juvenile court and protected Warren County’s interests in civil court.  Along the way Doug has earned a reputation for honesty, integrity, and hard-work. In 2002 Doug successfully prosecuted the individuals involved in setting fire to Teaser's Palace in Carlisle, Iowa.  As a result of Doug's efforts, the Iowa Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators awarded him the President's Award for outstanding service in the field of arson investigation and prosecution.  Doug previously served on the Metro Area Fire Investigators Task Force and served as the organization's President from March 2003 to March 2005.

Doug was born on January 8, 1971, in Jefferson City, Missouri.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri, in May, 1993.  Following graduation, he moved to Des Moines where he attended Drake University Law School.  Doug graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1996. Doug has literally grown up in the shadow of public service.  As a youngster Doug lived a few blocks from the Missouri State Capitol and attended grade school directly across the street from the Capitol.  Doug’s dad worked as an engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation for over thirty-five (35) years.  Doug worked two stints with the Missouri Department of Revenue after graduating from high school and worked for the Supreme Court of Missouri as an intern with the Missouri Board of Law Examiners during breaks from college.  Doug worked for the Honorable Gene Needles, Judge Fifth Judicial District of Iowa, during the summer following his first year of law school.  In the Spring of 1995, Doug interned with the Honorable Charles Hurley, Representative with the Iowa House of Representatives.  At that time Representative Hurley was the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.  Doug has seen and experienced all aspects of government and understands how each impacts county government.

 

Doug is married to Jayna (Blacksmith) Eichholz, a vice-president with Wells Fargo Bank, West Des Moines, Iowa.  Jayna grew up in Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School.  Doug and Jayna have two children, Jack (Age 21) and Mary-Clare (Age 16).  The Eichholz family includes two dogs, Molly and Dante, and a cat, Abby.
